Prepare your PS5 storage
Understand console, M.2 and USB storage before making room for a new PS5 game.
Check the available space
Open Settings, then Storage on your PS5. Review the space used by games, apps and captures before removing anything. Deleting a game installation and deleting saved progress are different actions; read the selected category carefully.
Choose playable storage
PS5 games can be played from console storage or compatible installed M.2 SSD storage. USB extended storage can hold PS5 game data, but it must be moved back to playable storage before use.
Prepare without guessing a download size
- Review games you can reinstall later.
- Keep saves and captures you want to retain.
- Check the current game listing for the required space rather than relying on social-media estimates.
- Allow time for transfers and updates before you plan to play.
